UPass Fee Assessment Information
City of Edmonton, St Albert, Strathcona County UPass Fee Assessment on Your Work Term
Up until the Fall term 2010, Co-op students on work terms have automatically been exempt from the UPass charge. If they chose to do so, Co-op students on a work term could opt to pay for a UPass in the same way they can opt to pay the Athletics and Recreation fee for access to University athletic facilities.
During the most recent negotiations for a new three year contract, it was agreed that this fee would be universally applied to all students whether on or off campus. The Engineering Co-op Department was never informed of this nor consulted about it. The UPass charge will increase in each of the two remaining years of the contract with the transportation services in the indicated municipalities to $104.16 in Fall/Winter 2011/2012 and $116.67 in Fall/Winter 2012/2013.
Under the new contract, students working outside the Edmonton, St Albert, Strathcona County areas must now apply to opt out of the UPass. The employer may have an address in one of the three transit areas but frequently the student may not work at this site. If this is the case then the student can opt out of the UPass.
For students working outside of the Edmonton, St Albert, Strathcona transit areas or in a situation described above, you can apply to be exempted from the UPass fee.
To apply, please click on the following link to complete and submit the form. You should receive confirmation of your submission.

Once submitted, the Engineering Co-op Department will confirm the accuracy of the information provided. The Fees Division of the Registrar’s Office will also verify the information before removing the fee. Note that the UPass fee will not be removed until after the ADD DROP Deadline for the term.
NOTE: IT IS THE STUDENT'S RESPONSIBILITY TO NOTIFY THE CO-OP DEPARTMENT SHOULD THEY WISH TO OPT OUT OF THE UPASS, OTHERWISE YOU WILL PAY THE UPASS FEE.
